Decatur lies on the Lewis & Clark Scenic Byway, which extends along the Nebraska side of the Missouri River from South Sioux City to Omaha. This stretch of U. S. highway 75 is named for the route that Lewis & Clark’s “Corps of Discovery” followed through the area in 1804 and 1806. Though the course of the river has changed, many local features are recorded in their journals.
Highway 75 is one of eight scenic byways throughout the state of Nebraska. Byways highlight the state’s diverse scenery, history, and recreational opportunities, while offering an alternative to busy highways.
Transportation routes surrounding Decatur are also business friendly. Decatur’s iconic bridge provides the only river crossing between Sioux City and Blair. U.S. Interstate 29 runs along the Iowa side of the Missouri just 7 miles east of Decatur. U.S. 275 and U.S. 77 run west of town. State highways 51 and 75 come directly to Decatur.
